Class – Beginner Needle Felting!
Students Will:
- Receive handouts – written directions for independence.
- Materials to make their first project, based on our beginner level kit we make.
- See demonstration and get one on one instruction and guided practice.
- Covered topics include: safe usage of materials and tools, tips for success, suggestions for next steps.
- Open access to our buffet of different fibers and colors that can be included in your artistic class piece. (With In-person instruction)
Description:
We want you to attain a new skill, enjoy what you’re doing, and successfully create! We take pride in offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Appropriately sized, accomplishable projects are chosen for student success and matery of a skill. (Existing project based instruction is separate.) This class is based on creating from our beginner needle felting kit. Kit makes a post-card sized art piece of students’ design. Instructors can help with creating something realistic (within realm of medium), abstract or patterned.
Materials Included & Optional Materials:
INCLUDED: Kit included in class cost comes with fist full of multiple fibers and locks, felt back, foam punch board, needle and directions. OPTIONAL: For Free- plenty of additional fiber provided at in-person events only. For Fees- additional tools & needles, punch boards, vast fiber supplies, felt and dryer balls to felt upon.
Skill & age level needed:
This activity is good for a wide age range from children through adults. Our suggested age or ability restrictions would include these factors – motor skill, focus and vision. Students will need to be able to safely hold and use a sharp and pointed object, like a knife or pair of scissors. Students will need to be able to retain focus/concentration to do repetitive eye-hand coordinated movements with a sharp object in hand for an extended period of time. Students will need to be able to see small spaces and their own hand in small spaces.

Class Location/requirements & Distance Learning:
On Location: Avalon Springs Farm in Mount Airy, MD USA. Classes are taught in-person and hands-on. This class is inside the studio. Facilities include bathroom. Nothing is specifically handicap accessible, but we are happy to try to accommodate. For any special needs, please inquire. We will try.
Vaccination for COVID 19 is required; please present card/doc. upon arrival. Mask wearing & social distancing also required.
Distance Learning: We can now offer many classes and activities via live-video (zoom/facetime) for instruction with materials shipped. This has been an excellent means to work around the fluctuating local pandemic situation. This is also available for students with mobility disabilities.
If materials are shipped, we will charge $8.00 in addition to class cost.

We schedule all classes and activities by appointment. Please use the “Contact Us” button to schedule a date and time.
This is a 1.5 hour activity. (If students need any additional help beyond the scope of the class, we can do some follow up instruction. Please let the teacher know.)
Traditionally we’ve done small group instruction with as few as one person and up to about 10. However, this is very fluid in response to the pandemic. If you are interested in a group activity, please inquire. Group rates may apply. Home school & 4-H are welcome.
Students under the age of 16 may need an accompanying adult.

We will then work with you to schedule your class or activity, and then it is suggested you pay. Payment is due on/before the class or activity date & time. For cancellations, we ask for a 48 hour notice.
