Fibernate Fiber Farmers Market – Show Review

Just to jump right in, there is something you should know- the cool logo artwork in the post cover was made by Julian Hockenberry.  This is Caroline, of Fibernate, son; and this particular shot is on a canvass knitting ‘n stash bag in her booth.

This show is about a decade old.  It had a period of moving about when the Vienna Community Center was being renovated, I’m so glad to report that is done and we’re all back.  It is a beautiful space.  It is actually a gym, that they now cover the refinished floors, but the ceilings are arched with big wood beams and the windows are really tall.  There are usually two dozen vendors, mostly booths of 10×8 around the wall and a few folks on tables in the center.  Aside from myself there are usually some folks that carry jams/jellies, project bags, stitch markers and a lot of yarn and roving.  There is an emphasis on quality professional indie-dye artists and fiber farms.  We feel complimented to be a part of the group.

Pictured above is a shot of the spinning circle – a super duper feature of this show.  It adds an atmosphere of authenticity and creativity!  After all we make to support the makers!  The spinners actually get into the show via a ticked feature that allows them to set up and shop before the general public – a nice thank you.

I would like to highlight one particular spinner – spinning with his DRAGON!  How cool it that!  Actually we met many years ago and half as tall at my booth in the historic Farm Women’s Market of Bethesda, MD.  Caroline (aka Fibernate) used to teach knitting and spinning classes from my inside booth.  So this was a total joy to take this picture!

And, now to jump from sentimental to silly – How do you like my new model!  This is a friend of Corrine Walcher of @gingyknits or Corrine Walcher Designs (sells patterns on Ravelry and an upcoming website of her own).  I will do a more in depth presentation of this new shawl later, but Corrine brought it to me at the show.  After this photo, I wore it all day.  I love it!  The pattern name is Lilliane and the yarn is one skein of Pendragon.

Our booth was a little bit back lit this time, as it was really really sunny.  But all in all a splendid day.
