Avalon Springs Farm was one of five stops on the 2019, Fiber Art Studio Tour. The stops were (East to West) Withers Wool in Woodbine, myself in Mount Airy, Wandering Wool in Damascus, Flying Goat Farm in Frederick, and Dancing Leaf in Darnstown. It is a self guided driving tour on the first weekend of June (Saturday the 1st and Sunday the 2nd). This year there were fewer stops but more artists at each stop. We were delighted to be a host stop, and along with our own fiber, yarn and goodies we had two other indy-dye artists/farms and a cool demonstration here. They were Solitude Wool from VA in a full booth (pictured below), and a trunk show by Feederbrook Farms of MD.
The tour is really unique! Each year all the dye artists are given a color pallet to make some mini-skeins of fingering weight yarn. The mini-skeins are souvenirs offered for sale at each stop in the different styles of each artist. But, they are all 100 yards of fingering weight yarn, so the Fiber Art Studio Tour also puts out a new pattern to be revealed for the show that folks can knit all their mini-skeins together to make a one-of-a-kind project! Dancing Leaf Farm produced the pattern and color pallet this year; the pattern is called Buffalo Gal. It is a free download on Ravelry until the end of June with the coupon code “JUNE2019”. And there is a knit-a-long in the Fiber Art Studio Tour Ravelry group (also annually). As a really cool activity at our stop we invited Rosalyn Keys, a.k.a Rozknits on Instagram. She came with her Earlbacher sock knitting machine. She did demos from 10-noon on Saturday, but it was so so popular she ended up staying most of the day! Roz’s set up was inside the tent we put up for our trunk-show vendor Feederbrook. Pictured below you will see Roz with a crowd and in the backgroud a bit of our Avalon Springs Farm booth. Set up behind Roz is Feedrbrook (hard to see anything in this photo).
Saturday was a great day, and the weather held up with all sunshine! It threatend to rain on Sunday so all three of us vendors were inside just so we wouldn’t have to wildly pack up in the pending rain. Fortunately it really ended up holding off till closing. But in any case, the last photo is from my own yarn in my studio shop.
